Client Context

The client is a UK-based Defence sector organisation jointly owned by private and public sector bodies.

The Challenge

The client faced a significant challenge with an ageing workforce, where over 1,000 employees were expected to retire within the next five years.

This impending talent drain risked causing a severe skill shortage in critical technical and project roles.

Furthermore, the specialised nature of its operations demanded that new talent not only possess strong
technical skills but also meet stringent regulatory and security requirements.

The Approach

To address these challenges, the client partnered with Scale Factory to implement a customised Recruit, Train, Deploy (RTD) solution designed to provide a continuous pipeline of skilled talent. The solution is structured as follows:

1. Recruit

  • Conducted an in-depth talent analysis to identify key skills needed across the clients technical and project teams, working in collaboration with its Head of Departments & Line Managers.
  • Leveraged Scale Factory’s established talent network, enabling rapid sourcing of candidates eligible for Security Clearance (SC).
  • Implemented a targeted recruitment strategy to attract candidates with a strong aptitude for Quality Engineering, Software Development, and Business Analysis, but with the right cultural fit for the client’s environment.

2. Train

  • Expanded Scale Factory’s learning pathways and designed additional comprehensive, tailored training curriculums that match the client’s environment.
  • Training modules covered Quality Engineering (Manual & Automation), Software Development, Business Analysis, and industry-specific regulations upskilling.
  • Delivered simulation-based training for real-world problem-solving and decision-making that is relevant to the client.
  • Implemented continuous assessment and feedback loops to ensure candidates met the client’s technical and regulatory standards.

3. Deploy

  • Seamlessly integrated, trained and Security Cleared individuals into client’s Engineering and Project teams.
  • Regular performance and well-being evaluations are conducted to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Facilitated mentorship and continuous skill development to ensure individuals grow within their roles.
  • Security Clearance: Scale Factory streamlines the onboarding process by either directly providing Security Clearance for individuals or providing individuals who are eligible for SC Clearance that are cleared by the client directly.

Outcomes & Impact

  • Successfully deployed 19 individuals across the client’s Engineering and Project teams.
  • Eight individuals transitioned permanently to client, providing a long-term talent solution.
  • Minimised onboarding delays through direct SC provisioning.
  • Enhanced workforce sustainability, addressing the challenge of an aging workforce.
